Time Away from Work

Assurant recognizes that personal time is important.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

Paid time away from work is consolidated under the Assurant Paid Time Off (PTO) Plan. PTO includes vacation, personal time, and sick leave due to your own health needs and the health needs of your family members. PTO eligibility is based on your years of service, job tier and benefit eligibility.

PTO in Days
Years of Service Tier I 1 Tier II 2 Tier III 3

3 17 22
5 19 24 29
10 22 27
15 24 29

1. Tier I includes all nonexempt employees (regardless of grade) and exempt employees in grades 1-8.
2. Tier II includes exempt employees grade 9 and above (through vice president).
3. Tier III is senior vice president and above.

Generally, Assurant does not allow new employees to take PTO during their first 90 days of employment. Exceptions may be made in order to comply with local laws or with manager approval. PTO is accrued or earned at a rate of one-twelfth (1/12) of the annual allotment per month during the course of the calendar year. In order to allow for more flexibility in scheduling time away from work, you can borrow against your PTO entitlement for the current year. If your employment ends prior to you accruing or earning the already-taken, borrowed PTO, Assurant may require you to “pay back” the costs of the borrowed PTO, and where permitted by law, Assurant may deduct this amount as an offset from your final pay.

Check with your local Human Resources Representative to determine your PTO eligibility. Scheduling your PTO is subject to workflow needs and your supervisor’s approval. Up to 15 days of unused earned PTO can be carried over to the following year.

Unpaid Time Off (UTO)

In addition to PTO, eligible U.S. employees may take up to one additional standard work week of UTO per calendar year, with manager approval. All approved UTO must be used within the calendar year elected after all accrued and unaccrued regular PTO is exhausted and will not roll over to the next calendar year.

Holidays

Assurant observes nine standard holidays each calendar year. The number of paid holidays you will receive is determined by whether you are a regular full- or part-time employee, and the specific days of the week you work. Assurant may, at its discretion, provide a floating holiday in certain years. This time may be used on any day within the applicable calendar year, subject to your manager’s approval. The decision to grant the additional day will be announced each fall with the publication of the standard holiday schedule on Connect.
