Why take a health screening?
PG&E provides free annual health screenings to employees to help you determine if you are at risk for developing serious conditions like heart disease or diabetes. Because untreated health issues like these can lead to safety incidents, kidney disease, and even stroke, our annual on-site health screenings give you the chance to speak with a results counselor who can provide resources to help you decrease any health risks you have. Only PG&E employees need to complete the health screening to earn your Health Account credits. We encourage your dependents to get an annual physical from their primary care physician to access their health information.
In addition to gaining valuable health information, you’ll earn $250 for single coverage or $500 for family coverage for your Health Account. You’ll also have the option to test tobacco-free or complete Provant’s tobacco cessation program to earn an additional $250 for single coverage or $500 for family coverage. These credits can be used for eligible medical expenses, glasses or contacts, and even braces or Invisalign. Your health account credits carry over year to year, as long as you are enrolled in a PG&E medical plan. And, if you qualify for PG&E retiree medical, your credits will be available to you in retirement.
There are four options to obtain a health screening (click for details):
Option 1: On-site Health Screening Event (recommended)
Option 2: Your Health Care Provider Completes Screening
Option 3: LabCorp Screening
Option 4: Remote Concierge Health Screening
If you have any questions about your health screening, please email Provant or call 1-866-271-8144, option 2 Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Health screening FAQs
Do I have to complete a health screening?
No, participation in the health screening is completely voluntary. If you don’t want extra Health Account credits, you don’t need to participate.
Who sees my health screening results?
Only you see your individual results like weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood pressure when you log onto the
Provant portal. Your results are there to help you learn more about your health, not to determine your eligibility for benefits or employment. There is no pass or fail with a health screening.
Will my health screening results be shared with PG&E?
No, PG&E never sees your individual results. While Provant provides a high-level report of the average values for the entire population, individual results obtained at a health screening are protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This means Provant cannot share your individual results with PG&E or any insurance company.
What can I use the health screening credits for?
The additional credits you receive for completing your health screening and testing tobacco-free or completing the tobacco cessation program are combined with the Health Account credits PG&E provides you every year. You can use these credits for any eligible Health Account Plan expense – including dental and optometry visits, prescription glasses or contacts, braces and more. Learn more by reviewing

Should I fast for the health screening?
The health screening does not require fasting. However, if you would like to obtain a fasting value for items such as glucose and cholesterol, you may fast for eight to ten hours prior to your appointment. Note that all participants should drink plenty of water, and try to avoid caffeine, tobacco and sugar prior to your screening.
How else should I prepare for my health screening?
- Check your past results to compare with this year’s.
- Drink plenty of water and try to avoid caffeine, tobacco and sugar prior to your screening.
- Wear loose fitting clothing and shoes that are easily removable.
- Allow 30 minutes to complete your screening.
What will be measured at the health screening?
The screenings will consist of a non-fasting finger stick to measure total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), cardiac risk ratio (TC/HDL), and glucose. Body composition (height, weight, BMI, body fat percentage and waist circumference) and blood pressure will also be measured. In addition, you can elect to have a tobacco screening via oral swab.
What does the oral swab test?
The oral swab for the tobacco-free test is used only for the cotinine (tobacco) screening and is immediately disposed of using appropriate biohazard disposal methods. Provant does not store, share or run any additional testing on the oral swab or blood samples.
What is BMI?
BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a calculated formula applied to height and weight. It’s one of the many indicators that determine the risk of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer or diabetes.
Is my BMI and weight accurate even if I'm wearing clothing at the health screening?
Yes, your BMI and weight are accurate even when you’re wearing clothing during your health screening. Keep in mind, your weight will fluctuate throughout the day with food, drink, sodium and activity. Clothing adds a small amount to your total weight, but Provant’s onsite team accounts for this and has standard weight deductions to help make sure your BMI is calculated correctly.
Why is my blood pressure reading different than my normal blood pressure reading?
Your blood pressure reading at the health screening may be different than at the doctor’s office because your blood pressure is affected by everyday activities. Your blood pressure results could be impacted if you rushed to the health screening, drank caffeinated beverages or experienced excitement or stress prior to the health screening. If you’re concerned about any differences in your blood pressure readings, you should follow up with your doctor.
